Mermaids

We are all running to be free
From all that we don’t want to see
From the past we left behind
To a future so unkind


I see the traces, the shape shows where you are from
But everything I say turns the anger my way and empties me
I see your face and you staring back at me
And everything you say tells me that some day you will sail the sea


I feed the mermaids and pray they let me be
But everything you say, everything you did, angers me

But I had to go there to see what is down there
